we "shared" Steve's wallet with a complete stranger.
Again.
This stranger has a talent for getting into our locked and alarmed car.
Actually this is an ongoing dance we've been participating in.
After an event, we learn not to leave valuables in the car.
We make resolutions.
We are vigilant.
We know what we don't want more of and how to avoid it.
But then life happens, and the human brain filters out what is important and what isn't, in real time.
Steve's wallet, although a vital tool in the world of consumption, is not something that takes up valuable space in Steve's mind.
So after some time, he returns to his default mode of leaving it in the glove compartment.
The stranger has taken it upon himself to monitor our progress with surprise checks and collects Steve's wallet as a retainer fee for this service.
And then I call and cancel the bank cards.
The dance continues.
What I've learned from this exercise?
1. It is not personal.
2. Things happen as it should. (CK philosophy 101)
3. Anything done enough times gets easier to do.
Oh and that: it's not cancer.
