"Hinila Mo Eh!"
The fine for jumping the turnstile in NYC is $100.00.
Except this turnstile was not one you could jump over or crawl under anyway.
It was the full height rotator grater style in downtown NYC.
The trip was not a journey from hell.
Although if you ask my father, he might tell you otherwise.
You see my mother 'manages' my father.
Sometimes managers make mistakes.
The other day, my mother walks through the NYC subway turnstile
with my father's subway ride-all-day pass still in her hand.
Then she mistakenly hands the wrong subway pass to him and proceeds to coach him on the proper way to swipe it.
Well of course it would not work, since it is her 'just used' one.
By this time there is a queue of irate New Yorkers waiting.
Finally my mother passes him the correct one,
but in her enthusiasm to be reunited with my father--she yanks the gate forward before he gets the chance to position himself properly in the turnstile. He remains shut out of the subway.
I have never heard my father's voice screech accusingly: "You pulled on it!" as I did that day.
Nor have I seen anything funnier than the sight of my dad and my brother Jim engaged in a butt-to-groin waddle as they walked through the turnstile together.
