Pax's looks instantly won me over.
Although this relationship had an impulsive start, I was committed.

I invested a huge amount of time and effort, setting my alarm for 4 AM and then 5 AM, accommodating his small but growing bladder.
I devoted months to him.
And then Pax bit Kika. On the face.
I was horrified. Just like that, I was ready to get rid off him.
Steve suggested a more final ending in the guise of a hunting accident.
Kika, though, was more forgiving.

As her father endeavored to stitch up her eyebrow with liquid band-aid--
Kika pleaded the 6 month old bulldog's case.
He is still with us, which brings me to my question: can we ever love the same way after betrayal?
I think we have no choice but to guard ourselves a little more.
I think we have no choice but to guard ourselves a little more.
I am more cautious with him, more leery.
We don't make ourselves vulnerable to him in the same way.
But I also think that, finally, we have no choice. Asking if we can we love
after a betrayal is, in a way, like asking whether we can love for more than
just the few weeks or months before the other does something that leaves us
hurt and crying.
Maybe my girls have already learned that all love, eventually, comes in the
wake of some kind of betrayal. I just hope that they also know that it isn't
love if you have to don body armor.
So Pax has been given a pass - for now.
