A decade of subordinating my playfulness and vanity to being in the lives of little people who engage me like no one else has, little people who make me sometimes look like a homeless person, standing on the porch in my pajamas, beer can (with stones inside) in hand--dog in the other hand-- as the school bus drives up at 7:42 AM.
I hope that being taken for granted by my children is a compliment - I hope it is a testament to how safe I make them feel.
